Wildcats Record First-Ever 5K Team Win at Grinnell

The girls cross country team came into the 3A state rankings in the No. 5 spot this week- the highest this team has ever been ranked. To back up their ranking, the girls earned their first ever team 5k win in CHS history! The Wildcats won the Grinnell Invite on Tuesday, September 7, with 40 points. They came in front of second-place Williamsburg (70 points) and third-place Des Moines Christian (99 points). Four Wildcats finished in the top ten: Senior Ainsley Erzen placed 1st, Junior Tessa Erzen placed 6th, Sophomore Maya Bergstrom placed 7th, and Sophomore Marie Daggett placed 8th. Also finishing in our varsity line up was Junior Riley Sievers in 19th, Junior Laura Downs in 24th, and Junior Hannah McGraw in 30th. These Wildcats ran a great team race!

The JV squad also had a great night! They placed fourth with 129 points. Williamsburg JV won the meet with 24 points. Junior Sage Austin led the JV team and finished in 19th place. Junior Bella Pagel was also a top-20 finisher, placing 20th. Pagel, junior Abby Zoll (61st), and freshman Kira Fisk (34th) all recorded personal bests in this race. Also running in this race was freshman Mary Gano-32nd, junior Madelynn McFadden-33rd, and junior Katie Keeney (43rd).
