The Carlisle wrestling team took that mat against conference foes Boone and Bondurant-Farrar Dec. 1. The Wildcats scored dual victories over both the Blue Jays and Toreadors to go 2-0 to start the season.
In the opening match of the night, the Wildcats downed Boone 48-33 thanks to pins from Lucas Olson, Darek Tingle, Travis Johnston and Kallen Glawe. Forfeits at the first three weights produced all the scoring for Carlisle. Tyler Squires dropped a decision to a tough wrestler in James Runestand, while Grant Mutch, Bryce Murray, Cody Hutchins and Dylan Barnes all lost by fall.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats proved too much for the young Blue Jays jumping out to a 54- 0 lead before Bondurant-Farrar was able to score a win. The final score was 59-15 after B-F was able to get three wins on the board, including pins over Sam McPhee, Orrey Reed, and an overtime decision over Kallen Glawe. Wildcat pins came from Barnes, Comer, Logue, Olson, Squires and Tingle. Senior captain Travis Johnston recorded a technical fall, while fellow senior captain Cody Hutchins received a forfeit. Grant Mutch and Bryce Murray added to the team total winning by decision.
Excellent performances at the smaller weights 106-126 were highlights of the evening, going undefeated on the night. Head coach Jason Mehrhoff commented, "Our kids came out to a really fast start. I'm pleased with how they competed. We were just able to really capitalize on the momentum we were building up against Bondurant-Farrar. It's always fun to see teams compete on dual nights."
